If you need somewhere to stay we have an apartment that may suit your needs.It has a kitchen / lounge area, a dining room, a bathroom, and a double bedroom.

There is use of a washing machine and freezer in an outside building.

It also has sky tv if you want to catch up with the English news (or Emmerdale!).

We live in the other part of the Monte so if you have any worries about - where to go shopping, where the local cafes are, or even if you need a dentist; we are available to help.

Monte Da Estrada is central to touring as it is near the Lisbon / Faro motorway but also only an hour from the busy south and the Cornish like west coasts.

Some ideas of the distances of places around:- Almodover (15kms), Ourique (5 kms), Castro Verde (10 kms), Beja (40 kms), Odemira (49 kms), Guia (Algarve shopping) (45 kms), Monte da Rocher Lake (15 kms), Albufeira (65 kms), Milfontes (65 kms)

Almodovar has municipal swimming pools - the outside one surrounded with grass and a cafe on site. It is a beautiful clean pool which was only €1.50 p.p. last year for a whole day with use of sun umbrella free.

We do not have a pool as we are on a protected ecological area but the wild life around includes many species of birds if you enjoy bird watching.

O Ninho is situated out in the countryside with only the sound of the wildlife (little owls, hoopoes, egrets, storks, many bird varieties) and farm animals (cows, sheep, goats, peacocks, horses). We have far reaching views; with sunny days and the beautiful sunsets. Remote but not too far from the local town of Ourique.

Ourique is a small town with cafes, banks, hospital, pharmacy, schools, free internet access. It's a friendly place where there's time for all the pleasantries which have been lost in the modern world.

The town looks like a big hill with the miradouro (view point) at the top which was the site of a castle. The Battle of Ourique is quite famous in history.

The festivals very much depend on the time of year but, for example, we recently had the celebration of 'The Battle of Ourique'. They opened a new roundabout and there was a battle re-enactment at the castle. There was traditional music with BBQ'd sardines served with bread. Last week it was the Festas de Santa Maria when go carts were racing down the hill and in the evening group played until the wee hours of the morning.

In February it's carnival time where everyone dresses up. In March it's festival of the pig time, where they have a competition for the best dressed up piglet, plus food tasting and dancing.

There are also the street markets or 'feiras' which are held in surrounding towns different days of the months.

All the councils have web sites some have a translate option but they are most probably the best way to find out what is on; plus there is usually bill boards everywhere just before events. www.cm-ourique.pt

You can seek the entertainment or just relax at the Monte.

From Faro take the road to Lisbon and you will see Ourique sign posted quite early. There is a detailed map on this web site.

Faro airport is the nearest although we have had guests fly into Seville, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal.

If you are touring there is the Santander or the Bilbao ferries that operate from North Spain. We are ideally situated if you are touring down to the South Coast of Portugal.
