Casa Aguia Apartment is fully self contained and extremely spacious. It has 2 large ensuite bedrooms each of which can be either double or twin bedded as you wish. Bedroom 1 has a full bathroom with bath and shower over, WC, bidet and washbasin. Bedroom 2 has a spacious wetroom which has a shower, WC and washbasin. This bedroom/shower room is fully accessible for wheelchair users. An extra bed may be added to either bedroom.
There is a fully equipped kitchen/diner which has quality natural wood units throughout with granite worktops incorporating a hob, oven, fridge, microwave and kettle; plus a breakfast bar and dining suite. Adjacent to this is a comfortable lounge with leather suite complete with TV/DVD,radio and CD player. Double doors open from the lounge onto a shady terrace for alfresco dining or relaxing beyond which is a further sun terrace and large 10 x 5 metre heated saltwater swimming pool.
For your added comfort Casa Aguia has full underfloor central heating for the cooler winter nights and fans for the summer.
All areas of the accommodation including the swimming pool are fully wheelchair accessible.
A comprehensive Visitor Information Folder giving details of places of interest, activities,local services and restaurants etc will be found in the apartment along with your Welcome Grocery Pack.

Vale da Cegonha consists of Casa Aguia which is an elegant country house and Casa Andorinha, a typical farm-workers style cottage set in 20 glorious acres of unspoilt countryside yet only 5km from the town of Ourique where you will find shops,supermarkets,banks,a post office,health centre and petrol station. There is also a wide selection of cafes and restaurants with varied menus at inexpensive prices.
This area of Portugal is known as Planicie Dourada or Golden Plains. It is a landscape of rolling hills and open plains dotted with oak trees, eucalyptus and olive groves interspersed with pristine white towns and villages.It has a timeless quality where life goes on much as it has done for generations; where the stresses and strains of modern day living become just a far off memory.
It is also an area steeped in history. Many of the local towns such as Beja, Evora, Silves, Serpa or Monsaraz have either Roman, Moorish or Medieval origins and the Plains are also littered with archaeological sites.
Our central location in the southern Alentejo and excellent road links makes Vale da Cegonha an ideal place from which to visit these and many other interesting places.
If you fancy a beautiful beach almost to youself then head for the stunning west coast. For a little more razzmatazz head south to the Algarve beach resorts. Eastward will take you to the new Alqueva reservoir (now the largest in all of Europe) and the lovely Guadiana valley and Spanish border. North will take you to Lisbon for an excellent day out sightseeing and shopping.
Closer to home there are miles of old cartways crossing the land. For
those who love wildlife and birdlife a day out either walking, cycling, horseriding or jeep safari-ing, there is much to see - fabulous flowers in spring,brightly coloured birds such as hoopoes, bee eaters, and blue magpies and majestic birds of prey soaring over head. Then, also, there are the storks. Vale da Cegonha means 'valley of the stork' and they nest all around us from November until late August.
For the food and wine enthusiast we strongly recommend a day at a local vineyard, including a typical Alentejan luch and winetasting. The local pork or preto porco is superb,and if you have a sweet tooth, local desserts, tradtionally made by nuns, are a must.
But if all this sound too energetic then we would like to invite you to just sit, relax and enjoy this lovely part of Portugal from the comfort of Vale da Cegonha.

There are 2 routes available from Faro airport to Vale da Cegonha.
Route 1 - via the A2 motorway. This is a toll road and will cost 5.15 euros for a standard car.
1. Leave the airport following the A22 blue motorway signs for Lisboa.
2. Pass the football stadium on your right (Estadio Algarve)
3.Take the right exit signposted A22 Lisboa.
4. Leave the A22 at junction 10 signposted A2 Lisboa. This is the toll road.
5. Select a booth with a green light above and take a ticket. Do NOT use a booth marked reservado.
6.You will now travel for about 65 kms.
7. Leave the motorway at junction 12 signposted IP2 Castro Verde.
8. After you pass through the tolls you will pick up signs for Ourique.
9.Following the Ourique signs you will eventually merge on to the IC1.
10. You must then IGNORE the small signs for Ourique ( they will take you into the middle of the town).
11. Look for the large signpost for N123 Odemira/Ourique and take this exit.
12. As you come up the slip road keep to the left hand lane.
13. Turn left towards Odemira/Cercal.
14. Continue straight over the roundabout. The Pingo Doce supermarket will be on your left.
15. From her it is approx 6km to the end of our track. You will drive through a series of bends followed by a straight section with a river bridge at the bottom of the dip. The road climbs up again leading onto a long slow left hand bend. You are then reach the last straight section. Our track is at the bottom of the next dip, on the left hand side. There is a bus stop and 50km marker post next to it.
Follow the track until you see Vale da Cegonha on your right and turn right up the drive.
N.B. If there is a sheep gate across the end of our track as you drive into it, you are free to open it to drive through, but please ensure that it is closed again behind you. Our neighbours sometimes graze animals on that section of land. If you have any difficulties please telephone us and we will come and assist.

Route 2 - via IC1 - no tolls
Direction nos. 1,2 and 3 as above.
4. Leave the A22 at junction 9 signposted Lisboa/Ourique.
5. Again you will travel about 65kms.
6. Again look for the large signpost for N123 Odemira/Ourique and take this exit.
7. As you come up the slip road keep to the left hand lane.
8. From here follow direction nos. 13, 14 and 15 above.

The Apartment will be availabe for you on your day of arrival from
4 pm and must be vacated on the day of your departure by 10 am. These times ensure that we can prepare the apartment fully for incoming guests.
Guests wishing to remain on site after vacating the Apartment may have the use of the guests lounge. Bathroom facilities will also available.

Min stay :- 3 nights. For weekly rate multiply nightly rate by 6.
For the addition of each extra bed please add 5% to the rate. A cot with linen and highchair, suitable for babies under 2 years old - FOC.
If Casa Aguia and Casa Andorinha are booked together a discount of 5% may be claimed.
A 30% non-refundable deposit will be required when making your booking. A booking is not guaranteed until this payment is received. The balance will then be due 6 weeks prior to your arrival.
We accept payment in Euros or Sterling. For Sterling payments you will be advised at the time of booking of the exchange rate that will apply for both payments.

What is included:-
All linen, towels and teatowels, including a midweek change for weekly bookings. Swimming towels for use on site. Beach towels may be hired at a cost of 2 euros per towel per day.
Electricity and Gas
A Welcome Grocery Pack including tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, butter, eggs, local cheese and wine, fresh fruit, fruit juice and salt and pepper.
We also provide toilet rolls, 2 kitchen rolls, cling film, aluminium foil, bin liners, washing up liquid, sponge and dishcloth.
English style bacon may be purchased from reception.
