Our house is a perfect location for a quiet and private holiday for family and friends.
A wonderful get-away tucked in amongst the carob, almond and olive groves and citrus orchards with views over the countryside and out to the sea. Casa katerina has air conditioning in the living room with sliding glass doors opening out to the patios, the pool and barbeque area which are perfect for dining and lounging in or out of the sun.
Our mosaiced pool is 4 x 8 metres and has steps going down to the 1 metre shallow end through to the 2 metre deep end. A built-in barbeque is situated on the patio outside the kitchen door, along with tables and chairs.
Two of the bedrooms have double beds, bedside furniture and built in wardrobes. One has double french windows leading out to the patios. The other has a window looking out to the back terrace.
The third bedroom has twin beds, built in wardrobe and bedside furniture.
There are two bathrooms, one with a shower unit and the other with a bath tub and shower. The kitchen is large and fitted with a washing machine, gas hob, electric oven, toaster and kettle. The living room is large, has air conditioning and has plenty of seating. We have Sky free to view satellite television, a DVD player and CD, radio and speakers. Large French doors open out to the patios and allow plenty of sunlight and fresh air in to the house.
The Portuguese call Tavira the 'prettiest town in the Algarve'. It is a medieval town built on either side of a river, which is spanned by a seven-arch Roman Bridge. Elegant 18th century houses border the Rio Gilao. Castle ruins overlook at least 30 churches.
Tavira is renowned for its historical past. Recent excavations have discovered some important Phoenician and Moorish remains. Explore the narrow cobbled streets, see the doorway topped by coats of arms, ornate tile-fronted merchant houses, the castle ruins or just relax and unwind in one of the garden squares. Tavira offers something for all: historical churches, a castle and museum, a daily market selling superb fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, excellent shopping and numerous bars, cafes and restaurants.
Superb sandy beaches are within easy reach, all have EEC Blue Flag for cleanliness and pollution free water. The coast by Tavira belongs to the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa. It consists of dunes and a lagoon complex, which is known as Ilha da Tavira and runs along the coast. It is a paradise for bird watching. Facilities include sailing, windsurfing, pedaloes and parasols. Even in August this magnificent beach is relatively uncrowded. At Barril Beach children love the miniature railway that shuttles back and forth across the nature reserve to the beach of Barril. There is a good self service restaurant and cafe. A few minutes to either direction you will find miles of beautiful, peaceful, dune fringed beaches.
For family outings there are two water parks within an easy drive a€“ The Big One and Slide and Splash, and Zoomarine with a full programme of marine-life shows, offers a fun day out. The new shopping centre in Tavira not only offers supermarket, shops and also houses a multi-screen cinema.
