Quintamar is family friendly and good for large groups. The four houses have an area of 100m2 and 70m2 with 20m2 of terraces plus big sunny and shady patios on ground level.

The living room is spacious and cool, with two large sofas, and opens out to a large terrace facing the lake. The rooms are all cool and spacious with marble floors.

There is a TV with Sky free to view channels, DVD and CD player. The kitchen is open plan with a granite worktop and dining table. It is all modern and fitted, with electro - ceramic hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher (in the larger house) fridge freezer, toaster, kettle and coffee maker.

There are double and twin bedrooms which both lead on to a 20m2 terrace overlooking the lake. The other double bedroom links to the living room.

The smaller houses have one double and one double/single bunk bed each.The bathrooms are large with marble floored shower, bath tub, toilets and sinks.All doors and windows have sliding mosquito nets and shutters.

The grounds are open fields with olive and almond trees, bordered by country lanes which lead to the fishing village, river, beach island or town of Tavira. These lanes are quiet and suitable for bicycles, push prams and walking within 15 minutes to shops, restaurants and the beach access.

The lake is biological and has an area of 400m2. Half is purposely made for swimming and the other half for plants, which oxygenise and clean the water. It is very beautiful and ecological, attracting many kinds of birds and wildlife.

One side of the lake has lawns and wooden decks and the other has pebbles leading to a shady area with a dove house and farmbird enclosure.

A large lawn area for games is on the north of the house near the parking. In 2008 we will add a playground area.

The houses are luxurious, cool and light, with marble floors throughout which help maintain the freshness. Ceiling fans in the living areas and cross ventilation maintain the interiors cool. Fans are also supplied for bedrooms. All furnishing is bright, modern and comfortable.The terraces have garden furniture, sun loungers and barbecues.

For winter sun breaks, wood burning stoves can help make nights cosy: these are contained so that hot air circulates and no smells or smoke can escape. They are very effective and easy to operate, firewood is supplied.

The beach Islands of the Ria Formosa are renowned for being peaceful and uncrowded. They extend to 12 km of sandy beaches reached by foot, boat or by little train.

Barril beach is the closest and is accessed either by foot or train or Santa Luzia beach which has a boat service. Both can be reached within about 15 minutes.

Tavira Island has a good selection of restaurants and bars plus a camping ground and is more active in the high season, there is a constant boat service.

There are four golf courses in the area. About 5km away is the newly built Quinta Da Ria golf course which has beautiful courses on the coast.

Faro airport is 35km away. Car hire is optional, and bicycles can easily be rented and are suitable for the terrain and distances. A local reputable car hire service can be arranged to pick up at the airport, please enquire.

Tavira is a 5 minute car drive away and about 30 minutes by foot through quiet country lanes. Santa Luzia fishing village is nearer, about 10 - 15 minutes by foot. Spain is about 25km away and Seville can be reached easily.

Tavira is renowned for its 38 historic churches and its four beautiful bridges spanning the Gilao river which divides the town and allows for spectacular riverside views of the medieval town and river life. Numerous cafes and restaurants line the river, public gardens and quiet squares, offering an array of traditional patisseries and fresh fish dishes. The castle walls border the medieval centre of town, encompassing tranquil gardens and a camera obscura. From here scan over the rich tapestry of peaked rooftops to the estuary leading through the mosiac of salt pans and far out into the Atlantic.

The Ria Formosa nature park is rich with wildlife, our lake attracts many types of birds all year round, including Hoopoes, Bee-eaters, Kingfishers, Egrets, Finches, Wagtails, Owls, Stilts, Redstarts, Swallows, Doves, Stonechats, Linnets, Warblers etc. There is also a bird sanctuary closeby.

Prices shown are for one 3-bedroom house, prices for 2-bedroom houses is 100 euros less than price shown. Group bookings of 3 or 4 houses will have an extra cleaning charge of 100 euros. Please enquire for prices of combinations of more than one house.

Special winter and long let discounts.

A deposit of 50% is required at the time of reservation and is non-refundable on cancellations made less than one month before arrival. The balance should be settled up to two months before arrival.
