“Quinta dos Trigos”- ideally situated within “la Ria Formosa” natural reserve between Santa Luzia and Tavira in the Western Algarve (and well away from the crowds), is, above all, a special and unique place. The 250m2 natural swimming pool blends harmoniously with its surroundings, is a real “biotope” and without doubt a major attraction of the property that will invite you to swim in its clear waters free from all chemical products (it is cleaned naturally). Once refreshed, you could simply watch the frogs, the birds or dragonflies dancing over the water lilies or you may choose to relax in the hammock shaded by the 100 year old olive trees, listening to the waterfall. Otherwise you may prefer to stroll in the orchard (4’000m2) and help yourself, depending on the season, to oranges, figs, apricots, peaches, pomegranates and other exotic fruits….. For small kids, there is a small (classic) pool contiguous to the house.

This old farmhouse, recently fully renovated with eco materials, has lots of charm with its traditional high wood and cane ceiling. With 4 bedrooms (plus a nice mezzanine) and 3 bathrooms (one of them outside) it is ideal for 7 people, but does have 3 extra beds that can be used. It is also particularly well laid out to accommodate 2 families who wish to spend their holidays together.

Fully equipped, with many high quality appliances, the house offers all comforts. In summer, and for most of spring and autumn, you can barbecue on the terrace under a clear blue or magnificent starlit sky. When it is too cold to be outside (e.g. in winter) the radiators and wood-burning stove allow you to spend cosy evenings…….

Several bikes are at your disposal (free of charge of course) to allow you to easily explore the area.

An Internet WiFi connection is available for € 15 per week.

“Quinta dos Trigos” is located on the edge of Tavira in the Santa Luiza countryside, along a quiet unsealed road (easily passable for cars), 500m from “Ecovia” the 214 kilometres bike path of the Algarve which joins Sagres to Vila Real de Santo António and which is almost free of motorised traffic. Access to the property is easy, only 1km from Tavira railway station (the line passes close to the house) and 5mins from an interchange on the A22 motorway which is 30mins from Faro airport.

During high-season you can take the ferry boat to the Terra Estreita beach at St. Luzia. There is also the fabulous long white sandy beach “Praia de Barril”, that can be reached either by a tiny train or on foot via the floating bridge over the Ria Formosa and through the nature reserve, or if you wish just call a water-taxi. A wonderful environment for small children. . The magnificent beaches of the Tavira island were described by Lonely Planet’s “Travel with Children” Guide to be one of the world’s top ten beaches for families with children

Excellent golf courses in near proximity including Quinta da Ria, Quinta da Cima, Benamor and Monte Rei. Reached between 10 and 20 minutes drive.

Tavira is a charming, historic town with something for everyone. There are many shops, restaurants and bars. Sit at the market square sipping a glass of wine facing out on the river and watch the world go by. Take a walk around this beautiful town and visit the castle and some of the old churches.

The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is a paradise for walkers and bird watchers alike. Boats leave the pier for deep-sea fishing all along the Algarve Coast and Jeep safari and boat trips up the Guadiana River can be arranged locally.

The Spanish border is 30km away and it is easy to drive to Seville in 90 minutes. The Western Algarve (Sagres and Cabo São Vincente) is also easily reached by car in 90 minutes.

Preferred changeover day is Saturday but this can be flexible, particularly outside of July and August. Arrival time is 16h00 (4pm), departure 11h00 (11am); unlike Spain, local time is the same as in UK (one hour behind France, Germany, Spain, etc). Arrival and departure can be flexible depending on timing of guests before and after your stay.

Prices per week in euros.

We require 25% of the total price as a deposit, to be paid within one week of reservation (non-refundable).
We will acknowledge arrival of funds by email and on payment of the balance, up to four weeks prior to arrival, we will send the driving instructions by email.

Guests will be met at the house and will have a contact number in case any assistance is required.
