Villa in Tavira Details
This family-friendly Tavira Algarve holiday rental villa is
normally available for holiday rental from May through September.
It is a large, fully tiled, detached 250sqm/2700sqft villa with
four bedrooms, three bathrooms, large lounge (50sqm/500sqft), large
kitchen/dining room, several terraces, pool 11 x 5m (36 x 16ft)
separated from the patio by a child security fence; a portfolio of

There are two double bedrooms (one en suite with aircon and Sat TV,
one with fan) and two twin bedrooms (each with fan). The villa is
tastefully furnished and comprehensively equipped (indoors and
outdoors) to cater for max eight guests. It is ideal for family
holiday rental but parties of young singles are not accepted.
Cable and Satellite TV (BBC, ITV, etc,) is provided in lounge,
dining room and master bedroomwith (each with individual set-top
box); also DVD, CD, VCR, etc. WiFi broadband (8MB) internet access
is included. The lounge and dining room are both air-conditioned.
The lounge has 2 x 3-seater and 2 x 2-seater couches.
Kitchen and dining room are separate but with an open-plan
arrangement resulting in a bright, airy setting. There is a
large, shaded terrace off the kitchen with an 8-place dining table;
table, chairs and umbrella are also provided off the utility room.
All windows in the villa (other than in the bathrooms) are equipped
with shutters to guard against the sun in the summer heat. The
roof terrace is provided with loungers, table, chairs, umbrella,
etc.
While smoking is not permitted indoors, there are 8 sliding doors
on the ground floor to the wrap-around terrace and each bedroom has
a sliding door to a tiny balcony. Cleaning and linen each 6 to 8
days, towels and bathrooms each 3 to 4 days. Off road parking is
available. The pool and patio area are provided 8 loungers, three
umbrellas, a pergola (poolside), an 8-place dining table, etc. The
child security fence between pool and patio will be a boon to
families with small children.
While a car may be desirable, it is not necessary. A footpath at
the back of the villa leads to the Roman Bridge in the old town in
6 to 8 minutes walk. Taxis are plentiful and relatively
inexpensive in Tavira (€4 in town). There are inexpensive express
buses serving the towns along the Algarve but also Seville and
Lisbon. There is a commuter train serving the coastal towns and
connecting with the Faro-Lisbon express -- again, very inexpensive.
The ~8 miles/12km of beaches on Tavira Island are reached by ferry
or by small train (straight out of a kids cartoon!). There is even
a remote, secluded nudist beach on the island.
Tavira is still an active fishing port and boasts many good and
inexpensive restaurants (and, unlike Spain, Portuguese restaurants
start dinner at ~19h00/7.00pm). While there is a marked absence of
the lager louts and disco bars which plague so many other resort
towns, there are two good discos in town.
For the golfer, there are seven courses within 5 to 25 minutes;
travel one hour and you have pretty well all of the Algarve courses
available to you plus Isla da Canela and Islantilla over the border
in Spain.
Tavira is surrounded by the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve which
abounds in flora, fauna, lepidoptera, etc. You can also go
cycling, horseriding, rambling there. There is kayaking on the
river in Tavira, surfing off Tavira Island, boat hire for sea
fishing, etc.
For sightseeing, you have the Algarve Hills at the back of Tavira
or the many fortified towns of the Guadiana Valley which forms the
border between Portugal and Spain (Spain is 20miles/30km from
Tavira). Boat trips are offered to visit the walled towns with a
stop for lunch en route. A cycle path is marked out right along
the coast and bikes can be hired at several locations in town.
Right through the summer, the Camara (town council) organises
fairs, exhibitions, street theatre, folk music and dancing, a film
festival, etc -- the town buzzes up to midnight and beyond.
Pricing for the villa is based on 8 guests in July, August but on
six for the rest of the year. Sept to June a discount/surcharge of
5% is applied for each guest under/over the nominal six; e.g., 10%
discount for party of four in June. A 5% discount applies for a
two week stay, 7,5% for three weeks or more. Book 2011 by Nov 30,
2010, and qualify for an "Early Bird" discount of 5%.
The property is managed by an English couple who live locally and
who are on call should any minor emergency arise.

Set on one of the several hills in Tavira Town, this family-friendly
Algarve holiday rental villa overlooks the old Roman Bridge and the town
centre, and along the river out to sea. It is a 6 to 8 minute walk to
the Roman Bridge (generally regarded as the centre point of the old town

Directions to this holiday villa in Tavira
Coming from Lisbon/Faro or from Spain/Seville on the A22 motorway,
take the one and only Tavira exit. In the exit, take the N270
direction Tavira. After ~4km come to a roundabout on the N125 (the
ordinary road linking Faro to the Spanish border). Here turn left
(east) toward Spain (Espanha), Villa Real do Sto Antonio -- ignore the
Tavira sign. After a little less than 1km you come to a tall bridge
over the River Gilao. Immediately before this bridge there is a turn
to the right signposted for Tavira. Turn right here and, after ~60m,
immediately right again into Urbanizacao Colina da Asseca. This is a
one way system. After ~200m the road turns to the left and you now
pass some terraced apartments on your right. Another 200m and you
come to a T-junction. In front of you at this point, and slightly to

Arrival and departure procedures
Preferred changeover day is Saturday but sometimes flexible. Arrival
time is 16h00 (4pm), departure 10h30 (10:30am); unlike Spain, local time
is the same as in UK (one hour behind France, Germany, Spain, etc). The
English couple who manage the villa meet you there at 16h00 (4pm) or
later by arrangement and settle you in (and leave a mobile contact
number for 24/7 assistance). A service charge of GBP20,00
(or Euro 30,00 locally) applies if you arrive after 8pm (20h00). Mobile
numbers exchanged to facilitate local contact.
