Accommodation The house offers: G/F: spacious galleried entrance hall with double doors leading to the kitchen, winter sitting room, family bathroom, master bedroom & courtyard with outside kitchen/BBQ & pool. 1st Floor: Summer lounge, family suite (coat lobby, double & twin bedroom,ensuite bathroom) double bedroom & bathroom. wheelchair access to all ground floor Outside: double garage with ample parking in front. Large walled "garden" -well - a field at the moment! but some lovely views from the top- a great place for late afternoon drinks and to watch the sun go down.

Location! Location! Location! Casa das Pedras Grandes, (located approximately 10 minutes drive from Serpins) is a perfect "Home Base" for easy access to the many wonderful attractions, sports and nature trails, rivers and historical sites with which the Beiras region abounds. Just a short drive will take you through the pine forests to Gois, a typical Portuguese town, offering many facilities and sports activities. The steep river valleys and wooded hillsides around Gois form an ideal terrain for a variety of pastimes, including hill-walking, mountain biking, canoeing and horse riding. The area has an abundance of wildlife, so also has much to offer the artist or photographer. Those of us who may be less energetic can enjoy the river Ceira, which carves its way through the northern half of the region, providing plenty of areas to swim, relax and enjoy this magnificant unspoilt area. Driving in the opposite direction, and just 15 minutes away, lies the historical market town of Lousã, lying in the centre of several mountain ranges. Originally, Lousã was built 2km up the valley, nestled in the hills around the river Arouce. Much of the historic growth of the town happened in the 18th Century when the wealthy nobility built imposing buildings with tall facades. You can see family coats-of-arms engraved on the buildings if you pause to take in the architecture. The town has several intricately decorated chapels and 18th Century heraldic mansions known as casas brasonadas and it also boasts a Palace (Palacio da Lousã) which was originally built in the 19th Century and is now an elegant hotel. Central Portugal has a rich architectural, gastronomical, and natural heritage. For holiday activities there are the inland river beaches, tennis courts in the villages, sign-posted walking and cycling routes, sailing excursions, kayaking, and even 4x4 rides. The local tourist offices provide information about where to practise water sports, and about sightseeing routes, visits, restaurants, and natural parks. There are many Schist Villages in the area, scattered on the mountain sides and valleys, and are well worth a visit. They are unique in the sense that they offer traditional products or services, and abound with walking and marked mountain biking trails. The whole area is an invitation to meet the locals and share their traditions, crafts and history. You can follow the marked routes, or venture around at your own pace. The wonderfully historical cities of Coimbra and Porto are also well worth exploring, and Casa Das Pedras Grandes is the perfect place to return to after a long day of sightseeing. Have a dip in the pool and relax in comfort.
