Friheimen is an old farmhouse, partially modernized and expanded. We are located in the countryside, with beautiful views of the hills and the sea. The grounds are 16 000 square meters, with fruit trees. The center of the unspoiled village of Moncarapacho is ½ a mile (800 m) away. The village has shops, market hall, banks, cafes, internet cafe and several good restaurants. People drink coffee or beer in the square in the evenings. We have many grandchildren, and the place is child friendly.Often several families or generations vacation together.The pool is 4 x 9 meters, with a shallow end (90 cm) and a deep end (2,0 m). It can be heated with a German solar heating system. The coast is 3 miles away. It is a protected bird breeding area, Ria Formosa.Building hotels on the coast is therefore restricted. That means that we are away from the tourist ghettoes in the west. There is a beach nearby, on the mainland, and many beaches on the fabulous sand islands just outside. They are easily reached by the bathing ferries (10 min., 15 min., or 45 minutes). The islands are long, so you can be with the others, or all by yourself. Algarve is famous for its many golf courses, and many are easily reached from Friheimen. The east-west motorway is only 2 miles north of us. That makes all of Algarve, and its attractions easy to reach. There are charming towns, large water parks, a dolphin show, an amusement park, shopping, churches, museums, a nature walk in Ria Formosa, an outdoor mining museum, an observatory, festivals, music etc. The castle in Silves is from Moorish times, the one in Alcotim is not as old. Spain is 30 miles away. That makes all of Andalusia accessable.Sevilla is a two hour drive away.
