Quinta do Ferro is one of the largest and more ancient family estates in this region. It is a privileged place for quietness surrounded on all sides by nature and countryside. The estate (600ha) is situated in the valley of the River Távora which flowing under a Roman Bridge, goes through the estate for about 4km. Surrounding the area and still within the estate are ranges of hills with water courses meandering discretely between banks of lush vegetation, several kilometres of forest paths through pine, oak-trees and cedar forests. This landscape inspires outdoor pursuits. The manor-house is located in the center of the property.

Manor-house:

The manor house - Solar was originally constructed in the 15th century, ancient documents kept in the estate’s archive, state that the manor house was already in existence by 1532. There have been various alterations to the house over subsequent centuries, increasing in size considerably. The current family have owned the property since the 17th century. The house with its dominant 15th century defense tower restored in 1878, is built on 2 floors, in a shape of an “L”, with a total area of 1.200 square meters and is encircled by gardens which include a box hedge maze which is spectacular.

On the ground floor on the east wing, a very impressive entrance hall and stone stairway decorated with hunting trophies leads to an old library corridor on the top floor. The living quarters are on the top floor, fully equipped with heating.

All of its eight bedrooms, on the west wing, are decorated with antique beds and rustic furnishings. The master bedroom has a cosy living room with TV and a wood burning stove. Three bedrooms have double beds, four bedrooms have twin beds and one room has a single bed. All the bedrooms have private bathrooms with connecting doors. This wing has enclosed verandas overlooking the orchards and the gardens.

On the east wing, the social area includes the dining room, a small pantry, and a living room with a fireplace and a large billiard room all with wooden period ceilings. On the ground floor a second entry hall leads to the chapel and its vestry. The chapel, originally from the 17th century, with its magnificent altarpiece dedicated to S. Francisco Xavier was restored in 1825.

The kitchen is fully equipped with seating area for 8 people has an indoor barbecue, a service lift to the pantry. The laundry room and the winery are next to he kitchen. For eating out there is a barbecue, tables and chairs for everybody to enjoy dining al fresco.

The swimming pool (20x9m) and terraces are in a hidden and discreet place within an enclosed garden. The courtyard contains a fountain and a totally majestic arch in Portuguese baroque style from the 17th and 18th century.

Surroundings:

The manor and the quinta's several houses surrounding area, is composed of large entrance alleys, gardens, big trees and apple orchards. In a quiet and secluded place near the manor, the swimming-pool (20x9m) is surrounded by platen and apple trees. In front of the house there is a fountain and a XVIII century stone arch.

A deposit of 30% of the full payment (or full payment if booking within 45 days of arrival) must be paid at the time of booking. This deposit is not refundable in the event of your cancellation or failure to pay on time as set out below.

The balance of 70% must be received by us not less than 30 days prior to arrival (or at the time of booking if this date has passed). This date will be shown on the confirmation invoice. If you have not paid in full and on time we reserve the right to treat your booking as canceled by you. In this case the cancellation charges set out in clause below will be payable.

A security deposit of 500€, is payable together with the balance (or at the time of booking if this date has passed). This amount covers you for any breakage claim up to the security deposit amount. It does not cover you for any surcharges or expenses incurred during your stay.

The cost of any damage or loss to the accommodation or to any items in and/or at the accommodation caused any service charges incurred by you or any member of your party will be deducted by us from the security deposit at the end of your stay.

If no deductions are required your security deposit will be refunded in full to you within 15 days after your departure to your bank details.

Less than 6 months - No charge.

Less than 3 months - 10% of deposit.

Less than 2 months - 25% of deposit.

Less than 4 weeks - Non refundable deposit.
