Monte Verde is a unique property of approximately 2.1 hectares lying between Altura and Monte Gordo in the Eastern Algarve only 2km from the coast. The property is entirely enclosed by walls of an average height of 2m, the entrance is through electrically controlled double wrought-iron gates, entering onto a cobbled driveway with low stone walls on either side. Leading up the hill to the main house, to the left of the entrance there is a fruit grove, measuring approximately 90m x 100m, consisting of well established lemon, orange, olive, fig and tangerine trees. To the right of the drive are spacious lawns watered by a sprinkler system.
Monte Verde covers an area of approximately 1,040 sq m with the main living areas on the upper level, enveloped within an open u-shape with a large terrace facing south towards the sea and containing a large kidney shaped swimming pool with a spacious tiled areas around it.
There is a double staircase leading down from the terrace and through wrought-iron gates to the lawn. The main entrance to the house is via double front doors from the drive on the western side, leading to a large hallway, beyond this through further double doors, leads to the lounge.
To the left is a corridor to the kitchens and to the right a bathroom and cloaks, and beyond them a doorway leading through to the terrace and guest bedrooms in the west wing. There are stairs down from the hallway to a garage and the lower level.
The expansive lounge lies in the center of the building facing south. It has smoked-glass patio windows overlooking the terrace, pool and the sea beyond, and a large open Inglenook fireplace.
The west wing at the main level contains three double guest bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom. The master bedroom, measuring approximately 6.1m x 5.5m at the south end of the east wing has been furnished with two en-suite marble bathrooms.
All bedrooms open on to a terrace with double French windows.
There is a large dining room on the west side of the house, a study or smaller sitting room, with an enclosed fireplace is next door.
The north side of the house contains a range of three kitchens. A kitchen/scullery and utility rooms plus larders and at the east there is a breakfast area.
On the lower level under the master bedroom on the east side is a large morning room, which the current owners have used as a gymnasium with French windows opening on to a garden and facing south.
There are 5 further rooms, one of which has been partially laid out as a bar, and a safe room, a room which houses the pumps and filtering units for the pool.
Down the stairs from the hall there is a smoke room (containing a smoker for fish and meat, with a chimney) and another storeroom and a 3-4 car garage, which has one double and one single automatic doors. This also there is internal access to the staff apartments. There are two separate staff apartments on the lower levels at the south-west corner of the house, the first adjacent to the garage and the second, below it. Each consists of a kitchen/diner/lounge, bathroom with shower and double bedroom. Both are partly at ground level at their respective parts of the house and each has separate external entrances as well as being connected internally to the main house.
The land surrounding the house has lawns as well as a grape vine area, mimosa trees, oleander trees and a mixed variety of plants in separate garden areas.
Monte Verde is a truly striking property in a stunning location and at a very attractive purchase price of 875,000 Euros.
In September 2011 Monte Verde was professional valued at 1,600,000 Euros (value can be seen on request) but due to some modernization and some attention it will be back to its old self again. We have had a professional quote done by a local company which includes modernizing details such at the tilling in the kitchens and bathrooms and the bathroom furniture to show the minimal cost and so to return this traditional Algarvian villa back to her former glory.
