House Description
Quinta da Devesa nestles on a hillside in the quiet hamlet of Bordonhos. Devesa is a working vineyard set amidst 7 acres of native Portuguese woodland, orchards, terraced vineyards and outstanding scenery. Quinta da Devesa has 2 buildings on the farm, Devesa is a two storey property available for rental with panoramic views across the valley towards the Serra do Caramulo hills. The other building is used as the farm store and is not occupied. Devesa is ideal for people who like to walk and explore or spend their time relaxing by the pool with a good book.
A paved terrace area adjacent to Devesa house is ideal for al fresco dining. Garden furniture for 6 is available with parasol. As well as the private 10 x 8m pool, a small paddling pool is available. Guests are welcome to take advantage of the plentiful fruits from the orchard. Depending on the season you can enjoy plums, pears, tangerines, oranges, lemons (ideal for your G&T), cherries, olives and much more.
The nearest village, Sao Pedro do Sul is about 2 kms from Devesa, a nice walk or a very quick car journey. There you can shop for fresh bread, famous mountain cheeses, to be accompanied by a glass of Dao wine, and other grocery items. Also available are banks, chemists, doctors and a range of other shops and services. Traditional restaurants and cafes will ensure you are in true food heaven.
Viseu is around 20kms from Devesa, an inexpensive taxi ride, if you want to experience a wider variety of architecture, culture and shops or a more vibrant evening atmosphere. Traditional Fado singers sometimes perform at the Se (cathedral) in the summer evenings, this is something not to be missed.
A car is essential for your stay at Devesa.

Nearest Airport: Oporto (1 hr 20mins drive). Lisbon airport is around a 3hr drive. The Portuguese motorway network is of a very high standard which makes the drive from Lisbon not as demanding as you might think.

Sao Pedro do Sul is set in the heart of central Portugal countryside near the Serra do Caramulo mountain range. Set in wooded countryside Sao Pedro do Sul makes a great base for exploring the countryside north of Coimbra. The Caramulo hills clothed in oak and chestnut forests are renowned for the spring water that originates from here. Fantastic views can be had from the viewpoint at 1,074 metres. This is historic countryside with Roman paths leading you past ancient dolmens and menhirs. The rivers around the area, especially Rio Vouga, are popular for whitewater rafting and kayaking. The town council has identified several themed walks – see above website links, currently in Portugese.

Termas du Sao Pedro Do Sul
Only 10 mins drive from the Quinta. Caramulo Museum
Nearby in Caramulo is the Museu do Carmulo that was set up by the two Lacerda brothers in the 1950s. The museum reflects both their passions: art and cars. The art collection contains 500 items including sculptures, furniture, ceramics and Roman tapestries as well as paintings of Dali, Picasso and Vieira da Silva.
The automobile collection contains over 60 vehicles including motorbikes, armoured cars used by the Portuguese dictator Salazar and the Bugatti 35B in which Lehrfeld achieved a land speed record of over 200 km/h back in 1931.

Serra da Estrela
The Natural Park of Serra da Estrela is the largest in Portugal and has the highest mountain peaks in Portugal. Both the Rio Mondego and the boulder strewn Rio Zezere start here and cut through the Natural Park. These are the only two rivers that start and end within Portugal's boundaries.
The Park was designated in 1976 to protect the rural character of the serra villages and its landscape. In the process some important wildlife has also been conserved.
Viseu
Viseu is the capital of the Beira Alta region nestling between the Serra do Carumulo and Serra da Estrela mountain ranges and is home to an architectural heritage that is well worth visiting. Good range of restaurants, cafes, shops and parks.
The town has a historic centre full of 16th-18th century buildings with a huge granite cathedral towering over the old town from the hill. The cathedral boasts an original vaulted ceiling, secured by stone ropes and knots. You can see paintings by the famous artist Vasco Fernandes (known as Grao Vasco) in the museum named after him.
Today the town is important as the centre of the Dao wine-growing region and a wide variety of regional gastronomic specialties are on offer at the restaurants in the town to accompany them.
Wander through the streets where Prince Henry the Navigator lived, he was also the Duke of Viseu. In Rua Escura, Gothic gargoyles peer out from 16th Century houses. Walk along the twisting Rua Direita, now a busy commercial street.
The mountain air, fine wines of the region and its famous cuisine will make your visit to central Portugal a memorable one.

Aveiro
The town with its 55.000 inhabitants is a mixture of neat fishermen’s cottages and Art Nouveau townhouses with a few historic buildings. The small houses lining the beach area are most attractive on the eye with their distinct colourful facades of different painted colours.
Golf
Golfe Montebelo was the first golf course to be built in the Central Portugal region. It’s in a stunning setting with the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo for views.
The 18 hole, 72 par course is divided into two 9 hole courses: the Caramulo course (the first nine holes) and the Estrela Course (the second nine holes). Facilities: Driving Range - Putting Green - Chipping and bunker practice area - Golf Shop - Restaurant - Bar - Swimming pool.
Directions: Take the IP 3 to Viseu and exit at the S. M. Outeiro-Sabugosa-P turnoff. After about 5.5 km the course is well signposted.

Vidago Golf Course is limited to nine holes that are played in two rounds and is part of the Vidago Spa Hotel. Set in a forest of pine trees, oaks and cedars, the ambience of the course offers a warm welcome to visitors. The 9th presents the player with some difficulties due to being a par-4 of 470 metres.
